Step Into the Captain’s Chair with Jonathan Frakes
November 5, 2025

From commanding the bridge as Captain William Riker to stepping behind the camera as a director of totally out-of-this-world Star Trek episodes, Jonathan Frakes has done it all.
We were lucky to get a chance to catch up with him for an exclusive interview where he opened up about the 60th anniversary of Star Trek and what he’s most looking forward to about setting sail with us again in 2026.
We’ll be celebrating 60 years of Star Trek on the 2026 cruise. When you think about your place in the amazing franchise history, how do you feel?
I couldn’t be more grateful or more proud to be part of this franchise. Star Trek represents a world that we should all be so lucky to be part of. LLAP!
How do you view the impact Star Trek has had on pop culture and the world? What impact has Star Trek had on you personally?
In addition to cell phones and holograms, everyone dreams of being able to “Beam me up Scotty!” I’m able to continue to help tell new stories as a director on Strange New Worlds and Starfleet Academy.
You play Riker, in what ways are you similar to your character and how are you different?
I strive to be as loyal and reliable as Riker. The character continues to inspire me.
You are joining an amazing all-star Star Trek crew onboard in 2026. Who are you most excited to see?
Star Trek: The Cruise provides us a great opportunity to reconnect with all of our wonderful growing Trek family.
