Exclusive Q&A: Denise Crosby
November 5, 2024
Denise Crosby, Tasha Yar from Star Trek: The Next Generation, is joining us on Star Trek: The Cruise VIII! Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with the actress who brought Tasha to life. Dive into this exclusive Q&A and get ready for a truly Un-Conventional Voyage!
Denise, you’ve actually “voyaged” with Star Trek: The Cruise every year since it first set sail! Is it possible to have a single favorite memory over the years?
There have been so many fabulous moments on Star Trek: The Cruise, like stumbling on to the idea for the Improv I do by accident and making it a regular event, swimming in the aqua waters of St. Thomas, getting to see my fellow actors share their talents, the laughter and camaraderie, but I don’t think anything tops the last time Ken Mitchell was on the cruise and he held the most wonderful Rave! Almost every actor onboard came out to dance and hug and celebrate all the blessings we have! I will never forget that! Bless you, Kenny!
What do you enjoy most about the cruise, in contrast to all other events with fans?
Star Trek: The Cruise is a unique experience for both the fans and actors because it allows for a relaxed time shared amongst friends and a much more intimate connection than say a Con would offer. We share 7 days together in paradise!
Can you imagine another alternate universe for Tasha — one where she gets the chance to actually relax on a vacation, like a cruise?
Tasha worked hard and it would probably take some time for her to let her guard down and truly relax. I imagine once she dipped her toes in the warm sea with a guy like Lt. Castillo, she might stay forever!
If Lower Decks or Prodigy ever pick up a Sela plotline — what Machiavellian mischief would you like to see her be up to?
Sela would naturally try and align the crews with her Romulan Empire. She can’t help herself. Power is what drives her!
How has your experience on Star Trek influenced you as an individual?
On almost every Cruise or at any Con, there is someone who shares an incredible story of how they got through some tough obstacles by watching Star Trek, or how the role of Tasha Yar inspired girls to seize their strength and power and not let anyone take that from them, that they could handle any job as well as men. That is profound and I don’t take that lightly. That’s my biggest gift from doing the show. (And getting to Cruise!)
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
As a child, I loved watching movies and loved going to theater. There was a children’s theater a few blocks from the apartment I lived in, and I would regularly go on Saturday afternoons. I’d spend all day at either the World or Pix Movie theaters on Hollywood Blvd. watching the double feature and then watching them again! I also loved writing for my school newspaper and editing it, so journalism was also in my heart.
List out some of your favorites! Music, book, food, color, etc.
Musically I listen to a lot of World music, Bossa Nova, playlists on Spotify from Groove Armada, De-Phazz, and Gotan Project.
I’m reading Joan Didion right now as I’m trying to write a book about me and my mother and a trial we went through. I also just finished the New Yorker’s July Fiction issue. Lots of Great short stories.
I love food, Mexican, Sushi, Italian, Greek, Thai, but give me a great pizza and a glass of Red, I’m smiling!
My favorite color probably is Green, the color of the Earth and the color of Money, baby!
